And then there were five. 45 million votes were cast on the Disco Week of “American Idol” and the people has spoken: Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai were out! The number of votes castwas the highest total to date this season, the night was also abuzz with the rare double elimination. The night’s big surprise? The finalists’ group performance was choreographed by judge Paula Abdul herself to the tune of Michael Jackson’s “Shake Your Body (Down to the Ground)” ^_^

Quick recap: the night began with Lil Rounds making the long walk to the bottom three chairs once again where Ryan Seacrest immediately informed her she was out. Kris Allen, Adam Lambert and Danny Gokey were then called and all were safe. Then Anoop Desai was called and he was at the bottom three yet again despite his great performances for the past 3 weeks. That left Allison Iraheta and Matt Giraud — shockingly, it was Allison who went to the bottom three. And then Ryan announced that Anoop was out =(

The much-dreaded Disco Week has finally come to American Idol season 8 — but the 7 remaining finalists were more than prepared for it! If you believe Randy Jackson, these bunch of 7 Idol hopefuls are perhaps the best bunch of seven ever =) Below is a recap of their performances and to see the entire show, just click the link at the bottom of the post.

- Kris Allen sang Donna Summer’s “She Works Hard for the Money” on acoustic guitar and all the four judges loved it! Simon Cowell called the performance “original” and “fantastic.”
- Adam Lambert performed “If I Can’t Have You” from Saturday Night Fever as a throbbing, super-smooth ballad. As expected, all four judges raved about it. “You have it major-league going on,” said Randy Jackson.
- Allison Iraheta spun another Donna Summer song, “Hot Stuff” into her own. Randy and Kara DioGuardi weren’t wowed by the slowed new arrangement, but no one faulted her vocals.
- Danny Gokey sang a big, sultry version of Earth, Wind & Fire’s “September.” Kara called him “an incredible vocalist” but Simon said he has “No star power.” OUCH!
- Lil Rounds, who was recovering from complete vocal rest, sang Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman” and all judges didn’t like it. Simon’s prediction: It will be “the last shot” for Lil.
- Matt Giraud who was rescued by the Judges’ Save performed “Stayin’ Alive.” But will he stay alive?? Randy said, “You can really sing, dude.”
- Anoop Desai performed “Dim All the Nights” and was wearing a bright pink sweater beneath a blaser which drew a praise from Paula Abdul. Kara thought Anoop was finally hitting his stride but Simon said it was his worst performance yet — “by a mile.” OUCH!

Yeah, we featured him so many times in this website but it seems there’s so much demand for Adam Lambert that we have to do more posts about him! LOL! Personally, I can’t blame you guys coz HE IS SO AWESOME and we want to know every bit about him! =) We all know that Adam Lambert was into musical theater prior to American Idol — so how does his experience with the theater compare with the reality TV show? He shared,

“You have to be on your game with the theater world. You have to be ready to go at any moment … So I think theater has definitely trained me to sing under any condition and just go at the drop of a hat. I think in certain ways, there are certain elements of the theater training that could be detrimental to the “Idol” experience, because that’s not really the sound I’m going for — I’m not going for a Broadway sound. But the cool thing is that this is finally allowing me to be myself.”

And given his theater background, is Adam Lambert hoping American Idol does a Broadway theme week this year? The awesome singer says, “No, I hope they don’t. Not because I have anything against it, I just don’t see myself doing that as a recording artist in that way.” Well, that’s good to hear! I truly believe that Adam Lambert is more than a theater showman, he really has a great voice and will go a looong way in the music industry! =)

It was an awesome and historic night last Thursday night in American Idol. The Judges Save was finally “awarded” to Matt Giraud and Jennifer Hudson finally comes home to the reality show that made her famous. But wait, there’s more! Tween idols Miley Cyrus performed while Zac Efron dropped by to watch. Isn’t that awesome for one night?? =) Anyway this week’s Bottom Three are Anoop Desai, LiL Rounds and Matt Giraud. Anoop was relieved first as Ryan Seacrest told him he was safe. Then after Miley Cyrus’ performance, LiL Rounds was given her seat. And so Matt was left for his swan song.. Watch his “save-me” performance here and Miley’s awesome song number!

I’m an American Idol season 8 fanatic. I’ve watched the entire series so far and I’m lucky that someone hired me to write about it. Who could say no?? Certainly not a fan like me! ^_^ And tonight (Wednesday in the Western Hemisphere, Thursday in my part of the world), an American Idol first happened — yup, the much-awaited ‘Judges Save’ happened! And boy, was it a spectacular ending to an already stellar show night!! Really a moment for reality TV history! So who got saved? “Part-Time Lover” singer and pianist Matt Giraud!! Yeah, I will always know him by that song. He was awesome when he sang it last week! This week, however, he got mixed reviews from the judges for his rendition of Bryan Adams’ “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman.”

But when Matt Giraud performed the encore tonight, as he fought for dear life in American Idol, I thought he sang it better. Simon Cowell thought otherwise, but hey, isn’t he a sourpuss anyway? Hehe! Anyway, after Matt Giraud performed, Simon asked him how many times he’d been in the bottom three, and then told him he didn’t think he had a chance of winning. It looked really bad then Mr. Cowell said, “Matt, it’s good news..” and all hell broke lose in the studio! Simon Cowell then cautioned the other finalists, “I wouldn’t be so quick to congratulate him. Two people are going home next week now. And, next week is disco week.” Ughh!! He’s such a buzz kill! But what he said is true — Matt Giraud may be safe for another week but next week is a different story and he may take another one down the drain with him.. =(

Last week, America’s most popular show ran late. So this time, the rule was only TWO judges will comment on the finalist’s performance. And this time, the seven finalists had a mentor — Quentin Tarantino! It was Movie Week after all =) Here’s the lowdown on the performances: Matt Giraud sang “Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman?” from “Don Juan DeMarco” which the judges hate. Apparently the vocal riffs that Matt likes to add to all of his tunes were out of place. Anoop Desai sang “(Everything I Do) I Do It For You” and he rocked it! Randy Jackson said, “I thought you did a really good job, man. Congrats!” Kris Allen took a big chance by picking the Oscar-winning, but still lesser-known, “Falling Slowly” from “Once.” Kara DioGuardi praised it, saying: “For me, it was one of your best moments ever!” However, Randy didn’t liked it.

Allison Iraheta performed “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” from Aerosmith and earned rave reviews from Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell. Mr. Sourpuss said, “I think you are the girls’ only hope left in this competition right now. I don’t think I’ve heard a girl, let alone someone your age, sing that song so well.” NIIICE! =) Adam Lambert also rocked it out with “Born to Be Wild” from Easy Rider. Danny Gokey chose Lionel Richie’s “Endless Love” and his performance was with a harp. Simon Cowell said, “I can’t really fault the way you sang the song. I’m disappointed … This song obviously means a lot to you personally and I can see that you’re emotional and it’s a hard thing to do, so I congratulate you for that.” Lil Rounds closed the show with Bette Midler’s “The Rose” which Simon Cowell hated: “I think that you are getting this completely wrong … there are no excuses any more. You are not the artist I believe we met seven or eight weeks ago.”
